This guide will instruct you how to configure the ZyXEL P-663HN-51 modem/router to work with Pacific Internet DSL.

Step 1 – Login

Connect your computer to the P-663HN-51 modem/router. Open a web browser and use the address bar to navigate to the address 192.168.1.1. You should receive a login prompt, similar to the image below. Use the following default login information and then click Login.

  • Default username: admin
  • Default password: 1234

Step 2 – Broadband Changes

Begin by navigating to the Wide Area Network (WAN) Setup. Here we'll be configuring the settings for the DSL signal to get in sync with the equipment in the Central Office.

  • Click Advanced Setup along the left
  • Click WAN from the menu that appears

Under the Wide Area Network (WAN) Setup, you'll see a single connection already set up (example below). Click Edit on the far right.

ATM PVC Configuration

In order to work with our service, the VPI and VCI must be 0 and 35, respectively. Click Next to continue.

Connection Type

The connection type should be set to MAC Encapsulation Routing (MER). Click Next to continue.

WAN IP Settings

Ensure all the blue dots are next to the settings that Obtain … automatically and then click Next.

Check all the boxes just as the image below has and then click Next.

This is the summary of the connection that was set up. Review the connection and click Save.

Step 3 – Wireless Changes

Next we'll navigate to the Wireless settings. It is very important you change the default settings! They are extremely insecure. By default, there is no security set, so it is very important to to ensure you make these changes to prevent malicious (or otherwise) people from using your network.

Wireless -- Basic

  1. Click Wireless along the left
  2. Click Basic from the menu that appears under wireless
  3. Ensure Enable Wireless is checked
  4. In the SSID field (1), pick a name for your wireless network
  5. Click Save/Apply to save your changes

Do not skip renaming the SSID!

Wireless -- Security

  1. Click Wireless along the left
  2. Click Security from the menu that appears under wireless
  3. Under WPS Setup, set Enable WPS to Disabled
  4. Change the Network Authentication (1) to WPA2-PSK
  5. In the WPA Pre-Shared Key (2), pick a password for your wireless network
  6. Click Save/Apply at the bottom to save your settings

(Very) Old devices that do not have support for WPA2 may need Network Authentication set to Mixed WPA2/WPA-PSK, although this is strongly discouraged.

Step 4 – UPnP

We'll be disabling UPnP, due to security issues.

  • Click Advanced Setup along the left
  • Click LAN from the menu that appears
  • Disable UPnP by unchecking the Enable UPnP checkbox
  • Click Save/Apply to save your changes

Step 5 – AnnexM

The final change we'll be making is Enabling Annex M. We enable this because some firmware versions behave irresponsibly with it off.

  • Click Advanced Setup along the left
  • Click DSL from the menu that appears
  • Check the box for AnnexM Enabled
  • Click Save/Reboot for the changes to take effect

A reboot is required for this change to take effect.

Now that the ZyXEL P-663HN-51 modem/router is configured, you are now ready to get online! You must restart your web browser to fully log out.
